Fundraising Tip of the Week: Follow Up!

As the fundraising superstar that you are, I'm sure you have drafted an amazing fundraising letter, telling your story as to why you are riding in the Audi Best Buddies Challenge. I'm sure you have also defined a lengthy, solid list of friends, family, colleagues, dentists, dog-walkers, etc. to reach out to. You've send your emails and letters and started recieving information. Great! What a fantastic start! Now, you've also gotten caught up in a big work project, spent weekends running endless errands, hosted a holiday meal for your family and friends, and haven't really thought about your fundraising since hitting send a while ago. Chances are, many of your contacts have forgotten your email too.

It's not that they don't want to donate, but with the hustle and bustle of springtime and life in general, emails and letters that are at once top of mind, often get pushed to the bottom of the pile. That's why it is always a good idea to follow up with your future donors. They will appreciate the reminder and you will see your fundraising jump.

About three to four weeks after sending out your first emails, remind yourself (via your Outlook calendar or Day Planner or Post-It on your fridge - whatever works) to check back in with your friends and family. This is another great chance to describe why you need their support and how appreciative you are that they are in your life. It's a very simple email or phonecall to make and will definitely help you meet and pass your fundraising commitment goal!
